Been in Surprise Arizona for 10 days. Yesterday was the first day without vertigo symptoms. Today will be off to do a nice 30 to 40 mile bike ride. It will be 77 deg in the afternoon, and is currently 50 deg.
Yesterday I moved to an RV resort, Paradise RV resort. Why they call it an RV resort is beyond me, probably a tax break if they have a few RV sites. About 95% of the 900 sites have mobile (permanent) homes. Very few Arizona license plates, there are people from all over the northern US, a few from Canada, and also Alaska. The Canadians have RVs. However, it is a senior citizen resort (over 55) with lots of activities to do.
My experience here has given me a new perspective about being an active senior citizen. Will summarize it simply as: Active senior citizen = Active adults. Will try to never use the words "senior citizen".
There are many, many large active adult resorts throughout the area. I checked another active adult RV resort, Happy Trails, that Sandra recommended. But could not get a site there at this time. This resort has over 2000 RV sites. Next time in this area will try to stay there. The active adults in these resorts do all kinds of physical activities that we have done, and then some. Hikes, golf, Pilates, get-fit-stay-fit classes, yoga, motorcycle club, dancing, and groups doing many less physically active hobbies: carpentry, card games for all kinds of casino gambling, computer clubs, scrap-booking, fancy sawing, ceramics, singles club. The activities are to numerous to write them all. However, very few active adults in the area are into the type of biking we enjoy, 30 to 60 milers, but they are around. Understandable only a few, remember the years when we use to do 100 milers. We have slowed a bit, 100 Km is a good long ride for us this days. These active adults don't want to spend all day biking, 20 to 40 miles is good enough, to many things to do every day, and as one of us, Don Don, is known to say, “not enough time”.
Bike Buddies, family, and friends, life in retirement can be awesome. Stay active, or it is not to late to start. Consider “active adult” communities for your retirement plans.
