... focus on the journey, not the destination, ...

Dry Camping at Lake Isabella. About 60 mi. east of Bakersfield, up the Kern River. Dry camping means no electrical, water, or dump for the RV. Lake Isabella is a man made lake, of course a dam used.

The Kern River, bellow Lake Isabella about 30 miles from Bakersfield. River rafting is done along this part of the river. This image was composed by merging seven photos together. The missing parts result from not holding the camera at the same level after each shot.

The Kern River, in Bakersfield behind the RV Park. It is just sand, no water. Why? The water has been diverted for farming about 5 miles east of Bakersfield.

Bigfoot and Me at the River Run RV Park in Bakersfield.

Hey kids, am in Bakersfield.

Have to keep reminding my self to focus on the journey, not the destination, goal, accomplishment. Interesting that we seem to be programmed to focus on the destination, at least I am, and yet, I think most of our life happens during the journey.

On my way to Los Angeles from Sacramento, stopped in Bakersfield at a nice RV resort, it was cheap, and decided to explore for two or three days. Bakersfield is about 260 miles south of Sacramento along hwy 99, and that is about the max driving distance per day for my adventure to circumference the USA.

Going south along hwy 99, stopped in a couple of rest stops. These rest stops were very well maintained. There were several rest stop attendants in each keeping the grounds manicured. The rest rooms were as clean as plates and glasses in a dishwasher.

Also, along the way saw gas at $4.95/gal, ouch, ouch. Going to have to shift more $ toward fuel for this adventure.

If this cost propagates along my route, then it will get close $2000 for gas just to get to Florida. I estimate the RV to use about 400 gal to get to Florida. That means RV camping at cheaper locations during the trip. Cheaper means less resorts, make use of RV parks were I can get 50% discounts (joined a club for this discounts), and some free overnight Wal-Mart parking lots. Fortunately, am prepared, in my planning, identified locations for the discounted RV parks and several Wal-Marts at each stopping location along the route to Fla. The discounted RV parks are mostly OK, usually smaller, older, most with no WiFi, no pool and no spa. OK, no more whining. I will focus on other things in the journey.

Not Bigfoot, but bigger RVs at the RV Park. These are Class A RVs with sliders. Bigfoot is a Class C RV & no sliders.
