Brother Jack (middle) with his grandsons, Caesar (left) and Lorenzo, one year old today.
Road on the levees, high river on right, and low island on left
Large bridge between islands. This bridge rotates 90 deg, to let large boats (yachts) thru.
The Bigfoot, not a houseboat, in nice shady camp site.

Am now in Sacramento.
Spent 3 days in the Sacramento Delta at a KOA campground on Brannan Island (no tents allowed). The Delta is made up of a few man made islands. Typically 15 to 22 ft below the river level. This is made possible by surrounding the islands with man made levees. On top of the levee’s are narrow roads, and the islands are connected with bridges. Some bridges are big, see photo.
Well, I had planned on doing some exploring by cycling around, that was not to be. Tues May 20th, was very windy, 40 to 45 mph continuous storming. No cycling fun with that, not even scooting was fun, so gave up and hanged around the RV. For Wed, guess what, it was still windy, maybe a bit worst than Tue. On Thur, the windy storm continued. With this wind came lots of dust in the air from the farms. With that, you kind want to stay put. Thursday morning was time to go to brother Jack's place in Sacramento. I usually don't like being out there in the holidays (This is Memorial Day weekend) with the rest of the crowds, so, will stay put at Jack’s till next week.
The stay in the Delta was not a total loss, spent time at a bar/restaraunt that was next to the RV camp. Of course, had Margarita’s and Bloody Mary's. But I met Carol, Carol is a boat people, yes she lives in a houseboat. Nice houseboat, an RV without wheels and has a propeller. There are houseboat communities (year around) in a few of the islands in the Delta.
Going to the Delta is like going back 40 yrs (or more). most structures are very old, but nicely kept. It is very quiet at least during the week days (except when it is windy), and the people are very friendly. The islands are primarily farms. In the summer season, typically weekends, which starts with Memorial weekend are very busy. At this island there is at least four or five RV parks and restaurants/bars, one has a band and dancing. For the weekends, reservations at the RV camps is highly recommended as these islands are very popular with people with boats and fishing.
In Sacramento, grandniece Alexis is a high school senior, about to graduate next week. She is planning to go to UCLA to study International Marketing. She discovered while doing the high school senior play (Grease), that she can sing; though no “American Idol” trip for her.
