Getting Acclimated to the Heat
Wednesday, April 28, 2010
Desert heat, wind, and Mountains some time produces spectacular sunset’s. A hand full of campers we were all watching the development of the above scene. It lasted about 20 min.
Have made an interesting observation, at least interesting to me, have been RV’ing for 4 years, and have seen that some RV’ers set up by putting cloth on their picnic table, laying a bunch of picnic stuff, like BBQ, coolers, chairs and other picnicking stuff. And sometimes even have a tent near their RV’s. And spend most of their time outdoors. They call that camping. Me, well, usually I just bring out a chair, so that I can enjoy sitting sipping a Margarita in the early evening, relaxing and enjoying the sights. Most of the time am inside the RV, TV on, and doing something on the laptop. Or am off hiking or biking. I call that RV’ing. Hence, since usually am by myself, I prefer RV’ing at resorts, over RV’ing at RV parks or campgrounds. RV resorts, have WiFi, a heated pool, a spa, a workout room, have a cemented parking pad, pavement and lots of grass, unlike RV parks and campgrounds, lots of dirt. This coming Saturday I will be here at this RV campground for 3 weeks, enough of that, on Saturday will move to an RV resort nearby. RV resorts do cost more, and seem to be getting excessively more expensive.
Observation: People who are RV’ing at RV parks or campgrounds usually are just weekend RV’ers, and tend to be younger. While RV’ers at resorts are usually full time RV’ers an tend to be retired. That is me, we have different agendas.
So why hangout in La Quinta? It was very nice hanging out with Cindy for the three days she was here 2 weeks ago. And now am just doing some training in the heat. Since Cindy left, the temp here have reached 99 deg. In Jun, am hiking down and camping at the bottom of the Grand Canyon with my babes. The first day we are hiking 15 miles to the bottom to the Colorado river. The temps in Jun, near the bottom of the Grand Canyon can reach 110 deg. Hiking in such extreme heat can be very dangerous, so am here in La Quinta training to get acclimated to the heat. Training means doing short 6 to 9 mile hikes and 30 mile bike rides in the heat. I used to like hiking and biking by myself, not anymore. My babes have spoiled me. They are back in the Bay area also training for our Jun adventure with long hikes but no heat. If the temp there reaches 75 deg, that is warm these days.
Ever since leaving Death Valley, have been feeling like a bum. That is my way of saying am just hanging out not doing much of anything. As opposed to spending time working on a Rouel project like my genealogy application. The genealogy project is now mostly completed, meaning I have not made any changes to it in about three weeks. It is basically ready for sale. I will put it up for sale online as soon as I figure the best way and least expensive. There are lots of internet outfits that facilitate selling software on online, and of course they want $ for it, and provide various tools with their services to make the job easier on the sellers and buyers.
Ok, now am off to do a little hike in the heat.
