A West Coast Vietnam Wall ...

Friday, November 18, 2011

Memorial Day Celebration at Sun Village here in Phoenix. There was a mariachi band, and other local bands as very adults residents had lunch and socialized. I talked with a gentleman, he did most of the talking, he is 84 yrs old. He spoke at length about his experience in WWII.

My good friend Bob (since high school) from Maine ping me a few days ago with, my blog was way outdated, time for an update. Yep he was right. Why have I not been blogging more timely?  No real excuse, I was doing pretty good with biking, adventure walks, and plenty leisure pool time, had lost 12 lbs. And then ... I got ideas for adding features to my genealogy software and that was it. I immersed and spent +300 hrs to implement the features in the software, fixed many bugs, and stopped bilking and walking, gained the 12 lbs back, ouch, ouch. In most of the important things I have done in life, have always gone with my sense of doing things until it feels right, by my standards. The genealogy software application now feels right. Hope I don’t get new ideas to implement for a long while.

As I have many times traveled to Phoenix Arizona, have often stopped at Chiriaco Summit on hwy 10. Usually stopping there for breakfast and gas. There, had driven by the General George Patton Memorial Museum ( this is a internet link) and never stopping. Yesterday, after driving 3.5 hrs, it was 8 am, was time for breakfast so because of the recent Veterans Day, decided I should take a look at the museum. Unfortunately, it was closed, so I just looked from the outside. The photos above, just a couple of the tanks there. But what was memorable, the photo on right, is that there is “West Coast Vietnam Wall” there. And they are soliciting for names of veterans who served in the military from 1959 to 1975, to etch their names on the black granite wall. I thought I should summit 3 names, my two brothers and mine. If you have a name or group of names of vets you would like to summit for the wall use the link above. No, they don’t have to be deceased, it seems they want names of all who served during the above dates. OUT STANDING i think. I will summit my 3 names.
