Lake Cahuilla A Great Place To Hang Out !!

Monday, March 10, 2014

When I was in Laughlin NV, about 15 mi. from Needles CA, waiting to get the RV repaired, went hiking a couple of times, that is when not veg’ing by the pool/spa of the casino. On the hike saw this area provided and next to the casino for “dry” free RV camping. No, I was not there, actually I was in the KOA way back on the photo.

Been on the road for two weeks, after getting the RV repaired went on to my destination of Quartzsite Az. Why ? was just curious, it is billed as the largest gathering d RVs, occurs every year by snow-birders escaping winter. They get over 500,000 RV’ers, so I thought I would check it out, and experience it. I got there way too late, I estimate there were about 50,000 left. Most vendors where closed or closing up their tents. Definitely a good place to get cheap RV stuff, no I didn't get anything, got too much junk already. Furthermore, was going to hang out for a couple of weeks, but, after one night decided to move on. I guess I got spoiled hanging out at a pool/spa for a week. So went to La Quinta, Ca. Have always liked hanging here. Especially this time of the year. Great weather for hiking and cycling.

In Laughlin, The KOA and casino are next to the Mighty Colorado river, so went hiking on the levi next to the river, 6 mi round trip. When you think the Colorado river, the Grand Canyon always comes to mind, no Grand Canyon here.

I am camping at Lake Cahuilla, next to Palm Springs and La Quinta Ca. Once upon a time, way before Palm Springs became Palm Springs, Lake Cahuilla was about 2000 square miles, and what is now Palm Spring was under water, yesterday I walked halfway around it in 30 minutes, 2000 square miles no more, click here

There is a pool at this county park, but will not open till next month. But that is OK, there is great hiking and cycling to be done, and the temp is perfect for doing both of those right now. Of course in another month not likely as great, as temps will began to soar to 90’s and 100’s.

Another great thing about Lake Cahuilla, is that, it is most excellent for star gazing, even with half a moon out.
