Beach Days Makes For Most Excellent Days !

Saturday, August 29, 2015

Sometimes you just have to take a long walk on the beach. 3.5 mi to go to get back to the RV.

There I was feeling something wasn't right. It took a few days to figure it out. Yep, Have not had a beach day this year.  So on last Monday took off to Half Moon Bay, on the Pacific, it is just south of San Francisco. Silly, because it just 39 mi from the place I call home. A nice RV park, with very large RVs and very tight spaces. What makes it nice is location. Have noticed that in Calif. All RV parks on or by the beach have become relatively expensive, $70 to $90 per day, depending on location in the park, partial beach/ocean view ( see the beach between other RVs ) or full beach view. Took a partial view this time, it worked out OK, no one parked on either side of me, and the space in front for my partial beach view was empty 2 days out three. So got plenty of beach view. Of course, hanging at the RV by the beach is not my way.

Long, long walks on the beach, it doesn't get much better than that. Walked south, round trip 7 mi, saw maybe 12 people in that distance. For me, beach walks is something special, calms my spirit. Could do it everyday for ever. So did three walks per day, morning, early evening, and very late at night, like 11 pm.

The structure on the far ridge is an Air Force radar station. Though the Air Force base, Vandenberg, click here, is at least 275 mi south on the coast and it is a famous place, as lots of Californians know.

Have done several bike rides around the base, and once pre 911, we were allowed to ride thru the base on very specific roads without deviations. Military Police tracking our thru ride of around 6000 riders. It was a century ride ( 100 mi ) out of Lompoc.

Another day, walked north on the Pacific Coastside Trail. Hiked to the place on the other side of the Radar Station. Where in winter they hold the Mavericks Surfing competition, 50 to 80 ft + waves, click here.

Did’nt see any 50 ft waves, more like 3 ft. However in winter 25 ft waves is normal, with 50 to 80 ft wave arrive in some years.

On my beach walks always passed by a few restaurants. Of course always quaff a Bloody Mary, and sample the seafood. It is the best.

Now at home, Mountain View, CA, Urban RV’ing where I call home. At Left my back yard, about 50 yrds from the RV, the tide in the Bay is out, and a couple of days from the Super Moon, click here. Of course, returning from another evening walk.

Today and tomorrow you will likely hear a lot about the Super Moon.
