The Great Eclipse of Aug 21, 2017

If you gonna watch an eclipse, wear cool “eclipse glasses”.
Have ended doing house and doggie sitting for the summer for my friends, and busy it was. So off to the eclipse I went. And a big check mark for Google maps. Had made an RV reservation for a campground in Oregon, Farewell Bend Campground. So google directions, 699 mi. Took my time getting there, RV’ed about 30 mi from the campground the night before. Early Fri morning arrive at the Farewell Bend Campground by the Snake River, the ranger could not find my reservation, after 30 min another ranger shows up, looks things over, and says, that reservation is for the other Farewell Bend Campground that Google Maps can’t find.
Big Oops for Google Maps directions, where is it ? how far ? I ask, about 400 mi, a 7 hr drive. Of course everything anywhere nearby is all booked up for the eclipse. Only scalpers asking BIG $$ are to be had, from $200 to $300 per night in private properties.
To keep it short, ... yep, did the drive. This campground is by the Rouge River. Nice campground, and is only 30 mi from Crater Lake, OR. Eclipse totality will not be here, but am not driving another 150 mi further north for it. Crater Lake will do fine. Here eclipse totality will reach 95%, ... good enough, and the view ...
The view before the eclipse from my seat at Crater Lake, by the lodge. A bit smoky from the 40+ fires burning OR up. Better today, yesterday, could not see the mountains on the other side of the lake.
The Rouge River by the campground. Had been near here, in younger days doing a week long bicycle tour with 2000 other cyclists, but that is another story.
Not a great pano photo of Crater Lake, it is still pretty smoky from all the fires. but a great place to observe the Eclipse. Yes, that is snow at lower right.
Below see a slideshow converted to a video, that I made of the eclipse. Nothing stellar, did not prep with special equipment. Just used eclipse glasses and my iPad. Then extensive cropping to enlarge, and made black blacker. Of course, did take many hundreds of photos to get this gems, the rest of the photos came out very blurry, as an iPad is not good for this kind of shots, all is all, not bad results after all. Did not expect to see the moon seeming to precess ( if that is the right word to use ) about the sun at near totality, then continue on to pass out of the sun.
See Yaa Later, Enjoy !!!
