Birthday Celebration

Saturday, November 21, 2020

Hey, my birthday came, my birthday went, …  that was last Jun, the big 70th. And as it is my custom, I had celebrated 3 or 4 times, so far. And then a couple of weeks ago, on a walk with Vickie, she says Roo, you have not celebrated your birthday properly. … Hmm, I think what am I doing wrong, that is not possible, then I got it !!

When Vickie turned 50 yrs, she wanted to walk 50 mi in two days. We did it, here is that blog adventure. And when she turned 55 yr, she wanted to walk 55 mi. Yep, we did it, here is that blog. … Well, she says we have to walk, either 7 ea 10 mi, or 10 ea 7 mi, or something like that. I agree of course, so here it is:

Day 1, 2 Nov 20:

We hiked 8.7 mi, climbed 1683 ft, -- kicked our butt. We were sore for days. Though in younger days we had hiked this trail and similar without it been so mean. Guess that is what happens as we get more advanced in age. Now this hike / walk is not something we just did out of the blue !! We have been walking and biking and hiking for ever. These are our active days stats, for example: Aug, Sep, Oct. So we did’nt expect this day 1 of my birthday celebration walk to be so mean.

Day 2, 4 Nov 20:

We walked 8.11 mi.

As you can see, we walked in the baylands, on levies. Lots and lots of birds. This area is called Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Refuge, by the little town of Alviso.

Day 3, 6 Nov 20:

We waked 9.14 mi.

This was a point to point walk, that means we were dropped off at the start, Hidden Villa, and we walked home to Vickie’s.

Day 4, 9 Nov 20:

We walked 6.82 mi.

The Windy Hill Loop, almost half way to our 70 miles. In younger days, also biked this trail, mountain bike that is. The view from high up looking down on our city.

Day 5, 10 Nov 20:

We walked 7.74 mi.

This was an out and back walk. We walked from the public access parking lot by the Facebook entrance, to over the Dumbarton Bridge, just one of the bridges to go across the San Francisco Bay.

Day 6, 16 Nov 20:

We walked 8.78 mi.

This was a point to point city walk, from Cupertino to Vickie’s home in Mountain View.

Day 7, 17 Nov 20:

We walked 12.27 mi.

This was a point to point, from Portola Valley to Vickie’s home in Mountain View.

… and this was one large pumpkin at the Alpine Inn. We stopped here for a break and lunch.

Day 8, 19 Nov 20:

We walked 5.48 mi.

This was a loop, we started from Vickie’s and finished at Vickie’s.

Day 9, 20 Nov 20:

We walked 6.06 mi.

This was also a loop from Vickie’s to Vickie’s. We had done this loop many a many times. Though this time we found some neighborhood cut-thru's that we had never done before.

We did lunch by a Starbucks sitting at a curb because there was no room outside due to COVID Restrictions.

( This Is The Way )   - - We are done !!
