50 Mile Adventure Walk ... !!!

Monday, June 25, 2012

The famous land mark, The Golden Gate Bridge, a couple of weeks ago, the bridge turned 75 yrs. old. I feature it here because last Saturday we walked across it in our 50 mile adventure walk. And It was a Great Adventure. If you want to know more about The City By The Bay, Click Here. Bit that there are not many people left that were around in day 1 of the bridge. Will try to find out, in the mean time, here is an interesting link on the Demographics of the USA, ... OK, interesting to me, Click Here.

It is done, last weekend we did what we have affectionately referred to as the CVW, Crazy Vickie Walks. Specifically, walk 50 miles in two days to celebrate Vickie’s 50th birthday next month. I would say, I think everyone that walked would agree, for me, the 25 mi of day 1 was more painful that the 25 mi of day 2.

We were, from left to right, Sandra, Cindy, Eliane, Vickie and me, and Vickie’s kids, no they did not go with us.

Last Saturday we started at 9 am in Tiburonwhich is across the bay, and walk 25 mi to The City over the Golden Gate Bridge. We walked along the bay on beautiful bike/walk paths. Scott with the kids took our gear to the hotel. Thanks Scott.

Stayed in The City overnight, had a great dinner, then on Sunday, walked 20 mi around the city. We started at 8:47 am, walked thru Chinatown, the Presidio, Golden Gate Park and thru the city back to the hotel to collect our gear, at 5:43 pm.

On Sunday was Gay Pride Day in The City, we avoided most of it, because it would have been intolerably slow to finish the walk. The walks took 9 hrs for day 1, including breaks and lunch.

For day 2, we walked 20 mi in The City, in 9 hrs. Then we caught the train at 6:15 pm, (1.5 hrs) to Mountain View. In Mountain View, Vickie and I pushed on for 5.5 mi in 1 hr, 22 min to her home, the END, for 25.5 miles. In day 2 I felt pretty good all day, probably because of the  slower pace, and rest in the train ride. None of us will ever forget this CVW adventure.

I wonder what our next Adventure will be. And It is time to make a list of all we have done throughout the years. Later, later.
